From Possibility to Emergence: Entering the Design Phase

The next step in the FoodHaus Fellowship journey

After a period of listening, sensing, and reflection, the participants of the FoodHaus Fellowship are now entering a new phase of the journey: moving from possibility toward emergence.

Guided by a personal calling question, participants have been exploring different food systems and their current challenges and opportunities through conversations, sensing journeys, and collective reflection. Along the way, many insights and new ideas have surfaced.

Now, after spending time with what is, the focus slowly shifts toward mindful action. In the next phase — the Design Dive — participants begin exploring what wants to take shape and how emerging ideas can be tested in practice.

Design Dive: From exploration to ideas in motion

This stage marks an important shift in the Fellowship journey: from opening up toward beginning to focus on future action.

The Design Dive is facilitated together with Mona Mijthab, co-founder of Mosan and lecturer in Strategic Design at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). Bringing experience in participatory and systems-oriented design, she supports participants in grounding emerging ideas through testing, iteration, and dialogue with potential collaborators and communities.

Rather than treating emergent ideas as fixed, participants work with them as evolving. Through an iterative design process, ideas are questioned, adapted, and developed further.

Integration and further learning

Across the cohort, a subtle but important shift is taking place: initiatives are slowly beginning to crystallise and connect more concretely with participants’ current lives and communities.

Questions are becoming more grounded: How is this relevant for my context? What space can I realistically create for this over the coming months or years? Who could support, challenge, or collaborate with me along the way?

Most initiatives will continue to evolve. Some may already begin taking clearer form through testing and collaboration. What connects them is not a fixed outcome, but a shared willingness to stay with what is emerging. And to continue learning through practice, iteration, and collaboration with others.
